Fashion Friday V3: Modern Hanbok

https://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/AKR/AK_ENG_2_2.jsp

As I get older, I have a greater yearning to learn more about my multiple heritages. For those of you who do not know, I am multiracial, part Caucasian, part Korean, and throw in a mix of Native American and Jewish Polish ancestries as well. One of the things I want to explore in my Fashion Friday series are the history and evolution of the Korean traditional attire, Hanbok. For this first Hanbok post, I am going to keep it simple and showcase some of the modern Hanboks that I found visually appealing. As the series goes on, I intend to get more in depth and break down the history, the evolution, and just how beautiful and colorful the Korean Hanbok is.

Above is a photo of me when I was 4 years old wearing a traditional Hanbok at my Korean school, pre-k graduation ceremony. Of course I was the only mix kid in the bunch, but as a kid it really did not even phase me. When I was young, I was fortunate enough to live in many countries. One of them being Seoul, South Korea. I was there from ages 3 to 5 and then from 8 to 10. Living on the Army base in Seoul has really influenced my cultural view of the world, my artistic style, and was where many of my fondest memories were formed.

Below are modern Hanbok designs I had recently discovered. These Hanboks are so stunning  and colorful! Also, the art direction in all of these fashion photos are simply stunning!! I love how Asians are not afraid to be playful, cute, and unique with their art direction and fashion photography!

I hope you all will enjoy this new sub-series within Fashion Friday! And please comment or email me any Fashion post you would like to see in the future!

Locals only ~ PIca Pica at Sugarloaf Mills πŸΌπŸ’œπŸŽ€

Pica Pica is one of my favorite local kawaii/geek shops here in Georgia! It is located outside of Atlanta in the suburban city of Lawrenceville. The store (which is located inside of  Sugarloaf Mills) has a little bit of everything: cute plushies, Funko figures, posters, kawaii stationery supplies, Gundam kits, Asian snacks, and more!

The owner and the staff are super friendly so it is a great place to explore! They allow patrons to look around the shop and they do not pressure you in to having to make a purchase. Pica Pica also has a reward program! For every $10 you spend you get a stamp. Once you fill up the card, you will get $10 off your next purchase. Not a bad deal at all!

So if you are in need of a last minute or unique gift for the geeky/kawaii person in your life this place is perfect! It's also a great place to explore and gain some inspiration πŸΌπŸ’œπŸŽ€

Illustration Tuesday V3: Kim Minji

This week I am excited to feature the beautiful illustrations by the South Korean illustrator, Kim Minji. I have been a fan of hers for over a decade now and just cannot get enough! When I view her pieces, I literally get lost in them and I escape into the magical world she has created. You can tell that Kim understands the art of storytelling!

All of her illustrations are very detailed, playful, and whimsical. Kim pays great attention to the way she composes the illustrations. By doing so, the pieces have a nice movement and flow. Allowing the audiences' eyes to move around the pieces which enhances the visual story.

I also really appreciate the way she plays with colors. Kim uses colors to further emphasize the composition, to enhance the many small details,  and to give her illustrations that light, whimsical feel.

Kim Minji has done many illustrations for books and has also done character designs! Below are a few of my favorite illustrations she had done for classic books. For more on Kim Minji and her illustrations check out her website, www.ki204.com! You can also find some of her books, postcards, and notebook designs on Ebay!

Toy Review #2 ~ Kaiyodo's Professor Layton Revoltech Action Figure (#086)

Professor Hershel Layton is one of my favorite video game characters! If you are a fan of Nintendo then you probably heard of the Professor Layton games. It is a puzzle adventure game series for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS developed by Level-5. There are six games in the series plus a film which by the way was so cute!

Professor Layton is a world-renowned archaeologist and a well-mannered gentleman who, with the help of his apprentice Luke Triton, is called upon to solve various mysteries in different places.

I have played all six games and was hooked on the concept from the very beginning. It was refreshing to have a main character be such a gentleman and smart! Using his wits instead of violence to solve mysteries.

The illustrations and story lines are also just so beautiful! I love the whole look and style of the series. The amount of attention that was put into the designs of the characters and the world they occupied is amazing.

So when I saw this Professor Layton figure, I had to get it! The figure is a bit pricey, so I waited until my birthday to get him. For me it was totally worth it! He is a lovely addition to my toy collection. πŸ’œ Below is my review! πŸ’œ

Currently // month of June

πŸ’— Pinks & Blues πŸ’™
Loving this color combo at the moment! Reminds me of cotton candy, it's fun, and I promise it is not because I am pregnant or wanting to have a baby! πŸ˜‚
  • Little Pullip+ Bohso & Little Dal+ Neiryo ~ I have always wanted to add a full sized Pullip doll to my collection, but it was always out of my budget. So the next best thing I found were these mini dolls on Amazon. At first I was just going to get one, but once I saw Little Dal's facial expression and outfit, I had to get them as a pair!

  • Wet n Wild, Mega Liner Liquid Eyeliner (spring collection) ~ LOVE these eyeliners! the colors are vibrant and stays on all day. It is hard to find liquid colored eyeliners that when applied is as vibrant as it is in the bottle.

Illustration Tuesday v2: Fran Meneses aka Frannerd

One of my favorite Illustrators right now has to be Fran Meneses AKA Frannerd! I swear she does it all: Illustrator, Blogger, Vlogger, Writer, Podcast Host, Cat Mama, Traveler, Etsy Shop Owner, Adventurer, Risk Taker, and so much more!

I discovered Fran through one of my friends' Instagram feed a couple of years ago. I was drawn right away to her illustration style and how funny and witty she was with her mini comics! After looking through Fran's feed, I totally had to find out more about this super, cool chick! So, I went through and watched all of her YouTube videos and read all of her blog posts.

I really appreciate how open Fran is with her audience and how she makes her viewers feel like we are a part of her cat gang. She gives such amazing advises on how to be a Freelance Illustrator and what it truly takes to become one. She also produces a variety of other videos: Let's Draw Something, Advice videos, Book/Art Supply reviews, Let's Go Out, Letters to Ed. These videos/posts makes you feel like Fran is just one of your close friends. She takes her viewers along on her adventures as a Chilean who is trying navigate and establish her new life as an illustrator in Europe (currently London, previously Berlin).

She has really inspired me to rethink my current life and to figure out what my own adventures could be! If you love fun, quirky illustrations and videos, you must check out Fran's blog and YouTube Channel! If you end up being a super fan like me, check out her Patreon and show her a little love. She updates it constantly and shares extra secretive, fun stuff!
